Dr. Harold Carl Smolinski
Dr. Harold Carl Smolinski passed away quietly with his family by his side on June 30, 2021, in Shreveport. Carl was born on July 13, 1947, in Ruston, to Harold and Eugenia Smolinski.
His father founded the School of Accountancy at Louisiana Tech, and his mother was the Assistant Director in the Placement Office.
After earning his bachelor’s degree in History from Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff, Arizona, Carl returned to Louisiana and received his DBA with a concentration in Accounting from Louisiana Tech. Carl then went on to become a beloved accounting professor at Louisiana State University Shreveport.
He began his career there as a professor in 1987 in the Accounting and Business Law Department and continued teaching through the spring of this year.
Carl taught all levels of accounting and was well respected by his students because of his knowledge, his ability to make complex topics understandable, and his genuine concern for their learning. He had a wonderful community of friends in the Department and will be greatly missed.
Carl was a wonderful brother and uncle. He was a devout Catholic who embodied all the best aspects of his faith. He was loving, compassionate, and generous to his family, his friends, and his community. His sister, Eugenia Dale Nicoletti, her husband, David Nicoletti, and his niece, Brigitte Nicoletti, survive him.
There was a visitation, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Shreveport. Carl was interred in the family plot at Kilpatrick Memorial Gardens in Ruston on July 6.
