George Douglas “GD” Young
George Douglas “GD” Young of Ruston went home to be with the Lord on October 28, 2021, at the age of 88.
Born to George Dewey and Evie Lena Young in Ripley, Mississippi, on May 2, 1933. George grew up with his brothers and sisters among the cotton fields of Hatchie Bottom along the Hatchie River.
In 1953, he joined the Army and served 3 years at Camp Youngham and Camp Drake in Japan. Upon his discharge from the U.S. Army, he settled in Ruston and began a 41-year career as an over the road truck driver for Diamond Industries and Fogleman/Dupree. After he retired, he operated a roadside stand selling peanuts and pork skins where he affectionately became know as “The Peanut Man.”
He enjoyed traveling with his cat “Pepper” in his motorhome, camping, boating, and reminiscing with family and friends. He loved life and lived it to the fullest.
George is preceded in death by his parents, his beloved wife, Dottie, two brothers, and two sisters. He is survived by his son Doug and wife Becky of Ruston, his daughter, Rose Terrie McGuyer of Allen, Texas, eight grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, friends, and family.
Pallbearers will be Nicholas Galanakis, Brian Dautreuil, Clint Richardson, Michael Patrick, Josh Adams, and Trey Cockerham. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to TruckersLastMile.org and The American Cancer Society.
