Gladys M. Dye
Funeral services for Gladys M. Dye were held on Monday, May 10, 2021, at Owens Memorial Chapel in Ruston.
She was later buried in Driskill Memorial Cemetery in Simsboro, under the direction of Owens Memorial Chapel Funeral Home of Ruston. Mrs. Dye was born Gladys Marie Potts on December 23, 1922, to sharecroppers Annie and Ellis Potts. Raised during the depression era Gladys was no stranger to hard work and commented to her family many times how hard and painful picking cotton could be.
Mrs. Dye was widowed twice in her lifetime – her first husband, James Driskill, and her second husband, Chris Dye; and sadly, also preceded in death by her three children (Sarah, Tommy, and JoAnn).
Mrs. Dye lived in the Ruston area all her 98.4 years and worked at JC Penney & Company as a bookkeeper. After JC Penney, she held various other jobs in the Ruston area and had a garden every year while working full-time. After she retired, Gladys enjoyed working in her yard and tending her flowers, but her passion was cooking. She was known to always cook her guest’s favorites; and the holidays were important time for everyone to gather at her home.
Gladys shared her love through her cooking. In her later years, she loved spending time with her grandkids and her dog, Rocky, along with talking on the phone with her friends and relatives and reading.
She is survived by her brother, Clyde Potts, and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
Serving as pallbearers will be Vic Cervantes, Bo Sproles and Jessica McCann. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Passionate for Pups. Visitation was held prior to service at Owens Memorial Chapel Funeral Home in Ruston.
