Funeral Services for Mr. H. Lynn Walker, age 78, of Ruston, were held on Monday, February 19, 2024, at Kilpatrick Funeral Home Chapel, at 1 p. m., with Rev. Joseph Fowler officiating under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home.

Interment followed at Mount Olive Cemetery, in Sparta. Visitation was held Monday, February 19, 2024, from noon to 1 p.m. at Kilpatrick Funeral Home of Ruston.

Lynn Walker was born on May 14, 1945, in Minden, and passed from this life on February 16, 2024. He served his country in the U. S. Army, ending as an Sp5.

He married his wife, Diane Reynolds Walker, but she passed away before him. He would later meet and marry Ms. Sheila F. Walker, after losing Mrs. Diane. Lynn Walker was a devoted husband, father of two sons, and grandfather of three.

He was a member of Cook Baptist Church, of Ruston and a member of The Phytopathological Society and The Weed Science Society of America. Lynn received his Bachelor of Science from Louisiana Tech University, Master of Science and PhD from University of Kentucky, and did post- doctoral work at Auburn University.

He was recognized as a Top Scientist and Educator for his dedication, achievements, and leadership. Lynn has also received numerous U.S. patents for his research in his field. With 40 years of professional experience, Dr. Walker was a botany professor at Louisiana Tech University, a research station director with the Mycogen Corporation, a research scientist with the Agricultural Research Service, and an assistant director of the plant industry for the Alabama Department of Agriculture, where he was previously a plant pathologist.

Lynn is preceded in death by his wife, Diane Reynolds Walker; and his parents, Ora Janice Walker Smith and Bernard Smith.

He is survived by his wife, Sheila Walker; his sons, Mark Thomas Walker (Brooke) of Pamona, Missouri, and Alan Reynolds Walker (Misti) of Lake Charles; grandchildren, Ava Reese Walker, Ella Dawn Walker, and Logan Reynolds Walker; sisters, Donna Bell (Ronnie) of Oakdale, Dixie Ellis ( Dan) of Texarkana; half siblings, Cherry Barbarousse, Ted Walker, and Tony Walker.

Pallbearers were Jimmy Hammons, Charlie Jackson, Richard Jones, Robert Prince, George Scriber, Marc Taylor, Mark Walker, Alan Walker, and Mike Tilley.

Honorary Pallbearers were Hugh Bernard, James Dugdale, Jim Hall, and Al Nugent.
