Henry Carl Skinner, Jr.
Henry Carl Skinner, Jr., affectionately known as “Bubba” by his family, passed away quietly, of natural causes on Monday, July 27, 2020 at Marshall Manor Nursing Home, in Marshall, TX.
A Louisiana native, he spent most of his 89 years on the family land near Ruston, LA.
Bubba was a good soul and was at peace in the end. He spent his early years in Monroe during the Depression until the family moved to Ruston. After the death of his father, he took care of his mother who, we have no doubt, has welcomed him “home” to be with her. Bubba was an outdoorsman — he loved to hunt and fish, and always kept The Pond stocked for us when we visited as children; he spent many hours teaching us how to fish with bamboo poles. He worked to keep the farm maintained and gave us all rides on the tractor even when we were probably nuisances.
Bubba was from a different era and had a good memory for distant times — he was a link to the history of our family and it was lovely to hear him tell old stories. He loved the old Westerns — TV and movies — and enjoyed the simple things in life.
He is survived by a younger sister, Dorothy Skinner Nuttall, three nieces (Peggy Wisner, Becky Nuttall and Ginger Nuttall), 1 nephew (James Nuttall), one grandniece (Emily Wisner) , one grandnephew (Neil Rawlings), and special family, Rory Wisner, Joy Murray and Laura Culbertson.
We want to thank Marshall Manor for their care of our loved one during this very difficult time of COVID 19. They made it possible for us to “meet” with him, even when we couldn’t physically be there.
As this generation passes, those left behind usually remember the good things, and that is easy with him. So long Bubba, until we see you again.
