Jim was born on October 12, 2000, in Ruston, and he died on November 6, 2021 in Simsboro. He is preceded in death by his uncle, Jim Brashear; Papaw, James Voss; and aunt, Danni Knox.

Thank you all for being here today to celebrate the life of my dear brother. Sometimes God sends down the sweetest souls and I had the opportunity to call him my brother. Anyone that has come into contact with Jim almost always has had nothing but good things to say. He had this spark that only he could create, he lit up the room he was standing in and he gave love and strength to those who needed it most.

My brother was a vessel of all things good. I can honestly sit here and tell you Jim didn’t have a bad bone in his body. He had a tender heart that loved unconditionally, a laugh so contagious to those who were listening. He was a shoulder to cry on when you needed it, a righthand man when no man was present. He was incredibly smart. Jim could fix anything in his path from home appliances to telephones, vehicles, computers and much more.

He had so much talent to offer in any expertise. But, if I’m being honest, my words cannot express how amazing this young man was. It was honestly a gift to be able to watch him grow into this remarkable young man given our upbringing. It was like art. God put these special pieces together and gave the world a soul that impacted many. His words live through us like water from a stream, slowly but never ending.

Although, he is not here with us the memories that he left us live inside of us forever. He is simply a soul that cannot be forgotten and I truly believe my brother is happy and his pain is diminished and he would want everyone to celebrate the life he led. He was an incredible friend, a wonderful brother and son and will be missed more than we know but, in our hearts he shall live forever.

Jim is survived by his dad, Hoyt Brashear; mom, Jamie Voss; sister, Krista Brashear; Papaw, Homer Brashear, grandmother, Sandy Lang; grammy, Chris Brewster (James); mamaw, Melinda Voss; great-grandmother, Velma Brashear; aunt Holly and uncle Jerry Taylor; aunt Kim and uncle John Brashear; and many other great aunts, great uncles and cousins; the love of his life, Ashley Christian; best friends, Madison Jones and Grace Daniels; and, oh so many, many friends.

Serving as pallbearers will be Hoyt Brashear, Homer Brashear, Landon Wilhite, John Brashear, Jack Brashear, Jed Brashear and James Brewster.

Visitation was held from 5-7 p.m., Tuesday, November 9, 2021, at Owens Memorial Chapel Funeral Home in Ruston.

Memorials can be made in memory of Jim to the Trevor Project for Suicide Prevention, P.O. Box 69232, West Hollywood, CA 90069.
