Funeral services for Mr. Kerry Kent Morris, age 83, of Farmerville, were held at 3 p. m. Friday, March 3, 2023, in the Chapel of Farrar Funeral Home in Farmerville with Rev. Kurt Auger officiating.

Visitation was held from 1 p.m. until service time on Friday, March 3, 2023.

Mr. Morris was born on April 30, 1939, in Farmerville, and went to his heavenly home February 25, 2023, after a brief illness. He graduated from Farmerville High School in 1957 and attended Louisiana Tech, earning a Masters in English in 1962 and a Bachelors in Business in 1992. He also served his Country in the United States Army and National Guard.

Kent began his career as an English and Social Studies teacher in 1963 in Port Author, Texas. From there he accepted a position as a teacher and girls basketball coach in Downsville from 1963 to 1966 and finished up his teaching career at Linville High School as a teacher and girls basketball coach from 1966-1968.

If you knew Kent, you knew that he had the drive to accept a challenge and took a position with Texas Instruments in 1968. He held many titles from dealing with Micro Electronic Computer Chips, planning Sells, Distribution and Logistics — Warehouse Management in Dallas, Sugarland, and Stafford, all in Texas.

He retired in 1998 but continued to keep himself busy, taking care of his mother as a full- time caregiver. Throughout the years, Kent became an avid and active supporter of the Lady Techsters basketball team. He had become the longest sitting board member of the Lady Techsters Tip Off Club Board of Directors and was recognized for his contributions to the university.

Everyoneknewwhere Mr. Morris sat. Mr. Morris was a member of the Liberty Hill Primitive Baptist Church from 1999 till 2016 and was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Farmerville and the Mens Senior Sunday School Class.

Kent was preceded in death by his parents, Clifford Allen and Ressie Ola Hudson Morris; brother, Duane Kirby Morris, and sister in law Patricia Ann Morris.

He is survived by his brother, John Lanny Morris and sister in law Linda Ann Morris; nephews, Lanny Jason Morris and wife Angela, Jonathan Daniel Morris and wife Susan, Michael Allen Morris and fiance Michelle Wade, and Duane Keven Morris and wife Shawna; great nephews, Trevor Morris, Jason Morris, Drew Morris, Clifford Joseph Morris and fiancé Lauren Monteverde, Landon Eugene Scriber and wife Kelsey; great great nephews, Kevi Barber, Matthew Thompson, Christian Morris, Gray Roberts, Cross Roberts and Jude Roberts; and great nieces, Sydney Morris and Emma Morris, Bethann Barber and husband Brian, Caroline Morris, Morgan Roberts and husband Andy, Madison Morris, Kirby Laurel Morris, Evelyn Claire Green and husband Tyler; and great great nieces, Rylee Thompson and Clairborne Roberts.

Serving as pallbearers were Kevin Morris, Michael Morris, Clifford Morris, Tyler Green, Phillip Morris and Jay Morris. Serving as honorary pallbearers were Paul Hayes, Donny Gates, Lee Moon, Mike Evans, Jim Krestensen, Paul Smith, and Bennie Wilson.

Due to Kent’s love of reading, donations for large print fiction books may be made to the Union Parish Library and for Kent’s love of the Lady Techsters Basketball; donations can be made to girls athletic scholarships from Union Parish.
