Loye Elaine Mott McKethan
A Celebration of Life service for Loye Elaine Mott McKethan will be held on Tuesday, February 7, 2023, which would have been her 96th birthday, at Dubach First Baptist Church in Dubach.
Visitation will be at 1 p.m. and the memorial service will follow at 2 p.m. Rev Barry Joyner will officiate.
Elaine was born on Febuary 7, 1927, in Pineville, ,and passed away on January 29, 2023, at the age of 95, at the home of her daughter, Angel May.
She was born to parents Ollie and Henry Mott and was a big sister to Waynon Mott. Elaine was raised in the Alexandria area and graduated from Acadia Academy High School, along with her father who was completing his high school degree in order to enter the ministry. While in school she was a cheerleader and also played the saxophone in the band.
She met her future husband, John Thomas McKethan, while attending Louisiana College in Pineville. They were married on Labor Day, September 1, 1947, in the First Baptist Church of Winnfield, which was officiated by her father. Upon completion of his teaching degree at Louisiana Tech, John and Elaine moved to Lisbon, Louisiana to begin his teaching career.
They later moved to Dubach to continue teaching and put down roots there for the remainder of their lives. During that time they raised three children, James (Tommy) McKethan, Darrell McKethan and Loye (Angel) McKethan.
Elaine was a friend to everyone. She had a servant’s heart and spent many hours as a prayer warrior, visiting and taking meals and sending cards to those in need. She was a fourtime cancer survivor and she constantly gave encouragement to those going through similar circumstances.
She and John attended First Baptist Church in Dubach where Elaine sang in the choir and taught elementary children in Sunday School for 50-plua years. She made many life- long friends at Dubach’s First Baptist Church.
She had a flair for decorating and design and used her talent in decorating all the tables for events held at the church. She loved a can of gold spray paint and would use it to repurpose the old into the new. She also loved the kick in energy that she received from her daily can of Red Bull energy drink. We all encouraged her to make a commercial for them but she always laughed and declined.
Elaine was employed in a variety of settings, but the job she loved most was being a secretary for Hico Elementary School. She loved children and could brighten up anyone’s day with her smile and cheerful heart. Her grandchildren called her Ninny, but as the years went by, she was known as Ninny by the extended family and many others.
To the special caregivers at Allegiance Hospice, especially Kim Roberson, Diwanna and Maggie May we thank you so much. Thank you all for your loving kindness and special care of our Mom.
To her precious friends on Tatum Pond, thank you for your countless hours of ministering to Elaine through your gifts of presence, food, fun and laughter.
She is preceded in death by her husband John; parents, Henry James Mott and Lou Ollie Brown Mott; brother, Rev. Waynon Mott and grandchild, John Joseph May.
Elaine is survived by children, Tommy McKethan and wife Jan of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Darrell McKethan of Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, Angel May and husband Milt of Ruston; grandchildren, Chase May of Baton Rouge, Corey May and wife Jill of West Monroe, Michael McKethan and wife Charleen of Coweta, Oklahoma; greatgrandchildren, Emma and Cash May of West Monroe, Addison and John Thomas McKethan of Coweta, Oklahoma.
