A memorial service celebrating the life of Lynda Jo Mason Mills, 80, will be held at Temple Baptist Church in Ruston on Wednesday, November 17, 2021 at 10 in the morning.
A visitation will be held from 9-10 a.m., prior to the service, officiated by Dr. Reggie Bridges and Rev. Dale Oden. A graveside service will follow at Kilpatrick Memorial Gardens under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home in Ruston.
Lynda Jo Mason Mills was born on November 13, 1940, in Big Spring, Texas to Harrell Lee and Callie Jo Mason.
On November 12, 2021, surrounded by her family, she peacefully passed on to her Heavenly home following an unexpected, brief illness.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Jimmie Lee Mason, Sr.; and her very best friend, Nancy Morgan.
Lynda graduated from Big Spring High School, then married her soul mate and love of her life, Charles Claude Mills, on June 9, 1956. Upon graduation, she worked for Hemphill Wells Department Store. Over the next few years, she was blessed with three children.
In 1969, her family was transferred to Baton Rouge, then on to New Orleans, where she worked as a nursery coordinator at Oak Park Baptist Church. Charles’ employment with Gulf Oil, now Chevron, transferred their family once again, in 1976, to Ruston, where Lynda and Charles fell in love with the town and stayed for the remainder of her life.
They built their dream home, a log cabin nestled in the ivy-grown woods. Lynda loved her home among the pines and spent much of her time tending to her yard full of all her favorite flowers.
Lynda started and owned her own business, The Front Porch, for many years until her six grandchildren came along. She loved attending all of the events that her grandchildren were involved in; and she never missed a single football game, dance recital, or Vacation Bible School musical. Along with her family, she was a member of Temple Baptist Church for many years.
Those left to cherish her memory include her husband of 65 years; her daughter, Cindy Wilday and husband Robroy; son, Drake Mills and wife Ann Marie; son, Darryl Mills and wife Becky; and grandchildren, Bethany Wilday-Giles and husband Daron, Justin Mills and wife Elyse, Tyler Mills, Nicholas Wilday, Morgan Mills, and Garrett Mills; and great-grandchildren Brooklynne Parker-Mills and Emersyn Mills.
She is also survived by her brother, Preston Mason and wife Phyllis; and a host of nieces and nephews as well as great nieces and nephews.
The family would like to the thank Northern Louisiana Medical Center ICU and Ruston Regional Specialty Hospital for their excellent and attentive care during her final days. Memorials may be made to the Temple Baptist Church library.
