Nita Nell Watson

Nita Nell (Huey) Watson passed on to be with her family and friends in Heaven on March 14, 2024. Born on October 24, 1928, in Ruston to Gladys and Lewis “Bill” Huey.

Nita Nell spent the past 23 years in San Marcos, Texas so she could be close to her children.

She is survived by her children, Wendell Watson, Jr. and wife Merri Lynn of San Antonio; Huey Watson and wife Nina of Chuluota, Florida, Carole Ann Watson Belver and husband Troy Belver, Jr., of San Marcos, Texas, and Robert “Bobby” Watson and wife Cherstie of San Antonio.

She was blessed to have seven grandchildren and eight greatgrandchildren.

Born and raised in Ruston, Nita Nell graduated from Ruston High School in 1945 and was a member of Temple Baptist Church for many years.

She worked for the Louisiana Tech University Bookstore for 26 years and enjoyed working with the students. An avid traveler, all you had to say to her was “lets go” and she was off on her next adventure.

Nita Nell loved playing cards, watching her “ birds” and rooting for her beloved New Orleans Saints and Ruston High Bearcats football teams.

We will miss her but rejoice that she is at peace with her Lord. A special thank you to Christus Hospice- Central Texas for their care and support.

The family invites you for a visitation on Sunday, April 7, 2024, from noon to 2 p. m. at Thomason Funeral Home, 2001 Old Ranch Road 12, San Marcos, Texas.

A graveside service will be held at Greenwood Cemetery, Ruston on April 10, 2024 at 10:30 a.m.
