Norma Jean Short Myers
A memorial graveside service for Mrs. Norma Jean Short Myers, age 94, of Ruston, will be held for the family at a later date at the family cemetery in Sulphur Springs, Texas.
Jean was born March 25, 1929 in Stuart, Iowa, to William Franklin Short and Sue Brown Short and went to be with her Heavenly Father on October 7, 2023 in Ruston.
She was all about family in Iowa, Louisiana and Mississippi. Jean was a loving daughter, sister, mother, grandmother and great- grandmother. She was an avid traveler with her husband. Jean was also a card player, puzzle whiz, antique searcher, cook and seamstress.
She believed giving back was a privilege, and she volunteered at Rolling Hills Ministry in Ruston for 10 years and at Gaither Christian Concerts in New Orleans. Jean was an active lifetime member of: Calvary Baptist Church with Dr. Hiram Campbell in Algiers, now New Orleans, Temple Baptist Church in Ruston and Good Samaritan Chapel in Arkansas.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and beloved husband of 50 years, Herman H. “Sparky” Myers, Jr.
Jean is survived by her three children who were blessed to have her as their mom, Kathy Sue and husband Van Steed, Michael Myers and wife Lisa, and Craig Myers and wife Stephanie; seven grandsons; 11 great- grandchildren; and a host of other family and many friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations be made to one of Jean’s beloved charity groups Rolling Hills Emergency Ministries in Ruston.
