Roy Wesley Schubert
Dr. Roy Wesley Schubert, age 79, passed away July 11, 2020, due to complications following surgery.
A celebration of his life will be held at 10 a.m. July 24 at The Bridge Community Church in Ruston, LA. The celebration will also be live streamed on The Bridge’s Facebook page.
Dr. Schubert retired from his tenured professorship at Louisiana Tech University after a notable career in both biomedical research and education.
Dr. Schubert was educated at Case Western Reserve University before moving to Louisiana from Ohio.
He is survived by his wife, Katherine Schubert of Simsboro, LA; daughter Jennifer Lynn Schubert of West Monroe; son John Tabor of Simsboro, LA; son David Schubert of Simsboro, LA; son Dr. Daniel Schubert of Eagle River, A;, and son Andrew Schubert (Wife Jennifer) of Norfork, AR.
He also leaves behind granddaughters Nicole Biggs (husband Justin of West Monroe, LA.); Danielle Schubert of Norfork, AR; and Kristina Schubert of Cincinnati, OH.
Dr. Schubert also recently became great grandfather to the young Mr. Jack Biggs of West Monroe, LA. Roy became a Christian in the early 80s after the gospel was presented to him by the Christian men of the Ruston community. He became a part of the group of men who, following Christ’s lead, formed Christ Community Church, now named The Bridge. He was able to influence many students and peers during his career, and also reached many others for Christ as he followed the Great Commission. He went to the Lord knowing that his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and wife will reunite with him.
After retirement, Roy spent his time enjoying his blessed assurance and exercising his commitment as a husband. He actively pursued his role as father to his adult children and their spouses, as well as adoring his grandchildren.
To the consternation and amazement of his children, Roy and his wife embarked on various RV adventures across the U.S, up and down both coasts, and across Canada to Alaska in recent years. With his wife by his side, they did not allow significant medical issues to prevent them from living as fully as possible right up until the Lord called him home.
