Sidney Branch
On Saturday, April 18, 2020, Sidney Branch, loving husband and father passed away at 4:15 a.m. at the age of 91.
Sidney was born on Jan. 3, 1929, in Natchitoches, LA. He retired from the United States Army after 29 years of honorable service at the rank of Command Sergeant Major (the highest rank of an enlisted service).
On June 13, 2013, he married Betty Scott.
Sidney Branch was a loving son, brother, father and grandfather and great grandfather. He had a passion for serving God and others. He served as a deacon and board member at New Hebron Baptist Church in Arcadia, LA. He loved gardening, was benevolent in giving and was lovingly known as “The Watermelon Man.” He was a member of the American Legion Post 593. He especially loved his grandchildren and always tried to instill the love of God in them. He was known for his patients, infectious smile and kind and compassionate spirit.
Sidney was preceded in death by his father, Buster Branch, mother, Annie Prudumme, previous wives (Mattie, Carrye), and three brothers and three sisters.
He is survived by his wife Betty and his children Gerald (Wyneak), Danny, Sharon, Gail, Patricia (Donald), Sidney Jr (Gwen), Bonita(Stephan) and Michael (Ylanda), a step son Edward, (Juanita) and 26 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren, his brothers Buster Holmes and James Rachel, his sister Shirley Bacon, his lifelong friend James Cornwell and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
A graveside service was held at Grambling Memorial Garden at 1 p.m. Friday, April 24, 2020.
