Sylvia C. Duck
The graveside service for Sylvia C. Duck, beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, July 20, 2019, at Beech Springs Cemetery in Quitman, Louisiana with Dr. Chris Craig and the Rev. Ed Colvin officiating.
Sylvia went home to be with her Lord on Friday, July 12, 2019.
Sylvia was born to William Bond Cooper and Alice Marie Warren Cooper in Jonesboro, Louisiana, on Jan. 9, 1946. After high school, Sylvia married the love of her life, Howard Arnold Duck.
She earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education from the University of Southern Mississippi. She spent her professional life as an educator serving for 30 years as a third-grade teacher at Vidalia Lower Elementary School and as a first-grade teacher at Ruston Elementary School.
At First Baptist Church in Vidalia, Sylvia enjoyed teaching the 5-year-old Sunday School class. After moving to Ruston, she continued to serve the Lord for several years on the Bereavement Committee at First Baptist Church and was an active member of the Adult 7 Sunday School.
Sylvia is preceded in death by her parents and her treasured husband of 51 years, who was also her very best friend. Sylvia is survived by her adored daughter, Kelli Colvin and husband Ed, and cherished grandchildren Joshua and Bethany Colvin of Ruston, LA; her dear brother, Bill Cooper and wife Suzanne of Winnfield, LA; several precious uncles, aunts, and cousins, plus numerous nieces, nephews, and good friends.
Sylvia was all about family; fiercely devoting most of her life as a sacrificial caregiver, often placing the needs of others over her own. She invested so much of herself into her daughter. She helped to care for her aging grandmother. She delighted in nurturing and giving much attention to her grandchildren. Sylvia assisted in the care of her father and then tirelessly cared for her mother.
Finally, determinately, she cared for her husband, never leaving his side. She strived to make everyone and everything in her circle of influence better. Looking ahead to thistime, she ensured an unforgettable legacy for her daughter and grandchildren.
Above all these and in all these, Sylvia loved her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, putting Him first in her life. The family wishes to express gratitude to the entire staff of Alpine Rehab for the care they provided to Sylvia and especially Aunt Debbie for her special attention in the last several weeks.
Extra thanks go to Dr. William Sanders and Dr. Tommy Smith for their personal care and help. Visitation will be held from 5 - 7 p.m. Friday, July 19, at First Baptist Church in Ruston.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be given to First Baptist Church Ruston’s Children’s Building Fund, 200 South Trenton St., Ruston, LA.
