Funeral services for Dr. Yvonne Elizabeth McIntosh will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 8, 2020 at New Rocky Valley Baptist Church, 2155 W. Martin Luther King Ave. in Grambling.

She died at her home in Tallahassee, FL, on Monday, Jan. 27, 2020, following a short illness.

Dr. McIntosh was born on Sept. 17, 1953, in St. Paul, MN to the late Drs. William and Lucy McIntosh.

Her father was Dean of the College Liberal Arts and her mother was a professor in the Department of Sociology at Grambling State University.

Dr. McIntosh was an associate dean of the College of Social Sciences, Arts and Humanities at Florida A&M University. She was also an associate professor of French and former chair of the Department of Foreign Languages. She had taught at FAMU since 1991.

A native of Grambling, Dr. McIntosh was educated in the Grambling State University Laboratory Schools. She graduated from Grambling High School in 1971. She graduated from Grambling State University receiving a bachelor of arts degree in French (summa cum laude) in 1974.

She received the Master of Arts degree in French from the University of Illinois, Champaign-Urbana in 1977. She earned her Ph.D. in French from Florida State University, Tallahassee, FL, in 1991. Dr. McIntosh had extensive international experience. She participated in the Fulbright Teacher Exchange Program 2006-2007, where she taught English at Lyc’ee Palissy, Agen, France. She served with Project Group Abroad Programs: summer 1997 in Senegal and Cote d’lvoire, summer 2000 in Morocco and Tunisia, and summer 2004 in Turkey.

She was an Instructor of Foreign Languages at Alcorn State University from 1978-1987. Dr. McIntosh served as the assistant secretary and vice president of the College Language Association. She was also director of the first African Film Festival at Florida A&M University, which featured the father of African cinema, Ousmane Sembene (April 1996). She was inducted into the Grambling State University Hall of Fame on Oct. 26, 2007.

Dr. McIntosh was a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. since 1972. She was also a member of the Tallahassee Community Chorus. Dr. McIntosh was a member of New Rocky Valley Baptist Church in Grambling and was a member of Bethel Baptist Church, Tallahassee, FL.

She leaves to cherish her memories her sisters Gwendolyn M. Williams (Terence) and Carol A. McIntosh; nephew Terence C. Williams ll; niece Cherolyn N. Williams; and a host of cousins a and devoted friends.
