2D Sports Baseball holds final youth tournament in Ruston

Friday, June 30, 2023

The final 2D Sports north Louisiana youth baseball tournament of the summer will be held Saturday and Sunday at the Ruston Sports Complex.

Close to 50 7U-14U teams will descend on the complex, hoping to be crowned champions in the three-game guarantee tournament.

2D Sports, which launched in 2014, and the baseball division in 2016, started with four total events in Louisiana to help give youth and high school prospects exposure and added competition away from the week.

Now, there’s over 100 events across eight states with over 5,000 annual registrations across youth and high school events.

Brandon Magierowski of 2D Sports hopes the Ruston community continues to support the annual youth tournament schedule and finishes the youth schedule in north Louisiana off strong.

“In today’s baseball, youth level competition is growing so much that you need to have a competitive environment outside of league baseball, which is still very important during the summer,” Magierowski said. “We provide competitive atmosphere for you to take what you did during the week and see if you can walk away as a champion.”

2D Sports takes a strong approach toward social media promotion, from high school prospects looking to catch the eye of college programs or young players having fun with friends.

Magierowski said the 2D social media accounts don’t promote youth players like its high school circuit but said any awareness in today’s game is a good thing.

“We’re not scouts and we’re not sitting here telling coaches how good players are,” Magierowski said. “What we’re doing is showing them what the kid has done and trying to promote them correctly and get them on these stages while they’re having fun.”
