Bulldog tennis opens fall slate with strong wins

After a long, threeday event at the Diving Eagle Invitational, the Louisiana Tech Tennis team came away with a combined 15 wins to open the fall slate at the Waranch Tennis Complex.

Zoie Epps, Ana Rodrigues, June Vigneron, and Nina Skoric each registered multiple singles victories. Epps led the way with three, defeating opponents from Northwestern State, UT Arlington, and capping things off Sunday with a 2-6, 6-4, 1-0 (6) comefrom- behind win over host North Texas.

Rodrigues, playing in the top pod, registered back-to-back victories via third-set tiebreakers against Northwestern State and Stephen F. Austin before having to retire in her third match.

Meanwhile, newcomers Vigneron and Skoric each notched two wins. Skoric bracketed the event with an 0-6, 6-1, 1-0 (8) win versus NSU and a 6-3, 7-6 (5) victory against SFA on Sunday.

Vigneron’s two wins came to start the invite, downing North Texas 4-6, 6-0, 1-6 (9) and NSU 7-5, 6-2.

The Bulldogs were led in doubles by the pairings of Rodrigues and Maria Tsironi as well as Skoric and Soha Singh, each duo claiming two wins.

Rodrigues/ Tsironi prevailed over UTA and NSU by scores of 6-2 and 6-3, respectively, while Skoric/Singh outlasted SFA and NSU by scores of 7-5, 7-6 (2), respectively.

Louisiana Tech will be back in action on Oct. 5-6 when the Bulldogs host the annual Red River Invitational in Bossier City.
