Former Cedar Creek pitcher Brooks Auger was selected by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the sixth round of the 2024 MLB Draft on Monday.

Auger, taken with the 190th overall pick, is the first Cedar Creek baseball alum to be taken in the MLB Draft. And he overcame plenty of adversity to get his opportunity.

After his senior season at Creek was taken away due to COVID-19, Auger pitched one season at Hinds Community College with a 7-1 record in 40 2/3 innings with an ERA of 2.88. He then transferred to Mississippi State, eventually missing the 2023 season due to surgery to repair his UCL.

Auger bounced back in 2024 with 20 appearances, 50 strikeouts, and a 3.35 ERA – the third lowest for the Bulldogs. Opponents hit just .215 against him, most notably his 13-strikeout game against Ole Miss in the SEC Tournament. He was named to the SEC All-Tournament Team for his efforts.

In his career at Mississippi State, Auger made 36 appearances with a 3.26 ERA in 66 1/3 innings to go with 77 strikeouts.
