Cedar Creek’s James Myers and Lincoln Prep’s D’Tavion Wright, Cenario Wilson, Tyler Wimberley, and Jakobe Jones led the way for local first-team all-district selections for District 1-1A.
Myers proved to be the Cougars’ best player this past season, making impact on all three sides of the ball – leading the team in rushing yards (392) and rushing touchdowns (4) while also leading in receiving yards (147) and interceptions (3).
His impact as a senior went beyond the plays he made on the field, according to Creek head coach William Parkerson, who is proud of Myers for finishing off his playing career the right way.
“First and foremost, he was the leader of the team,” Parkerson said. “He did anything we asked him to do to try to help the team. Between his offthe- field intangibles and work ethic to go with his athletic ability, he went out and had a great senior year.”
The Cougars’ second-team selections include Bryce Martin (OL), Blake Robinson (DL), Mason Wooden (LB), and Myers (DB). Creek’s honorable mentions include Logan Canales (OL), Landon Hall (OL), Kaden Williams (OL), Landon Burnham (OL), Trigger Woodard (LB), and Hayden Durrett (DB).
“I thought it was great to see that many guys get on there,” Parkerson said. “Usually, the more district games you win, the easier it is to get guys on there, but it was wonderful to see the other coaches in our district could see how good some of our guys played, especially down the stretch.”
Lincoln Prep’s turnaround season – a 7-4 finish after combining for five wins the previous two years – was led by D’Tavion Wright and Cenario Wilson, two seniors with athleticism bursting at the seams.
Wright led the Panthers’ offense with 1,068 rushing yards and 14 touchdowns at 7.3 yards per carry, going over 100 yards four times.
“He proved he’s the best back in the district,” Lincoln Prep head coach Glen Hall said “Haynesville had a pretty good back, and Cedar Creek did too with him being a hard runner. But D’Tavion was unmatched as far as open-field speed and what he did with the ball in his hands.”
Wilson made first team at wide receiver and defensive back, along with second team as a returner, after an impressive season. He put up 111 rushing yards and 3 touchdowns on 6 carries and added 13 catches for 173 yards and 3 TDs. He also had two punt return touchdowns. At defensive back, he registered 10 pass breakups and 6 interceptions as well.
Offensive lineman Jakobe Jones and linebacker Tyler Wimberley rounded out Prep’s first team picks as dependable starters for the Panthers.
“We’ve gotten some first-team guys before, but it’s been a while since we’ve had this many,” Hall said. “These guys stuck to the program and had to go through some difficult years but when it came time for them to lead, they did a good job and played well for us.”
The Panthers’ second-team selections include Ryan Randolph (DT), Trey Spann (DB), Samuel Williams (LB), Jaylin Huntley (RB), and Kegarrion Johnson (OL).
