Not all winless teams are the same. Cedar Creek proved that at Plain Dealing Friday night.

The Cougars scored early and often to build an impressive 56-0 lead by halftime on their way to a 64-0 shellacking over the Lions to notch their first win of the season.

How dominant were the Cougars in the first half ?

It was a laundry list of superlatives. Six different players scored touchdowns. The Cougars rolled up 250 yards of offense. The defense held Plain Dealing (0-6, 0- 4) to minus- 9 yards before intermission. Oh, and by the time Creek put up 56 points, the officials began to employ a running clock — with 8 minutes remaining in the half.

With the win, the Cougars improve to 1-5 (1-1) on the season. Late in the game the Cougars had a chance to make history, coming within one score of breaking the school record for points in a single game.

Cedar Creek set the tone early on its first possession of the game. Starting at midfield it took the Cougars just five plays to hit paydirt when Mason Wooden took into the end zone and also completed the two-point conversion to make it 8-0.

Following a three and out and punt, Creek took over at its own 37 and marched 63 yards in five plays when James Myers did the honors with a touchdown run. Wooden again rumbled in with the two-point conversion for a 16-0 lead.

It didn’t take long for the Cougars to get the ball back. On Plain Dealing’s second play of its next possession, Myers recovered a fumble deep in Lions territory. Eighth grader Payton Harris did the honors this time on a pitch from quarterback Cason Floyd. Wooden again completed the two-point conversion to up the lead to 24-0 with 5 minutes still remaining in the first quarter.

Plain Dealing again had trouble getting anything going offensively and punted away. This time it was Wyatt Gremillion’s turn to score. He bulled his way into the end zone and you guess it, Wooden scored on the two-point conversion for a 32-0 advantage.

The Cougars kept their foot on the gas and scored two more times before intermission. Trigger Woodard and Floyd each scored a rushing touchdown, while Myers also hauled in a 15-yard pass from Floyd to end the first half barrage.

Gremillion finished his night with 78 yards on 8 carries by halftime, while Woodard added 63 yards on 5 totes. Myers rushed for 52 yards on 2 carries and Harris had 67 yards on 2 attempts. All scored touchdowns in the first half.

With a running clock, Creek head coach William Parkerson substituted freely. The Cougars did add one more score with eighth grader Liam Durrett scoring from 27 yards out to end the scoring. Creek had the ball deep in Lions territory late with a chance to break the school record for was stopped on a fourth down play.

Creek won’t have much of a reprieve after celebrating its first victory. Undefeated Haynesville comes to Ruston to battle the Cougars this week in a district battle.
