Diamond Dogs dismantle MSU to remain unbeaten

LAKE CHARLES — Louisiana Tech baseball (8-0) picked up a victory over McNeese State on Wednesday evening, beating the Cowboys (4-5) 13-4, scoring 13 runs and 20 hits, while McNeese State scored four runs and seven hits.

Tech had another outstanding performance versus McNeese State, producing 20 hits against the Cowboys in their win on Wednesday. The last time Louisiana Tech had over a 20-hit game was against UTSA on May 18, 2023.

Cole McConnell (3-for-4, 2 doubles, triple) got the game rolling with a double to start the game. Dalton Davis’ RBI single, scored McConnell put Tech 1-0. The Bulldogs earned three more runs to their score after Cole Mc-Connell’s two-run triple to right field, scoring Grant Comeaux and Kasten Furr.

The Bulldogs scored four runs in the top of the fourth inning following a Furr home run. Tech picked up three runs after three RBI singles from Jorge Corona (3-for-6, RBI), Michael Ballard (3-for-3, 2 RBIs, 3 walks), and Grant Comeaux (2-for-5, 2 RBIs).

Furr (3-for-6, 2 RBIs, HR) extended the Bulldogs lead to 8-0 after he scored on a wild pitch. Tech kept scoring runs after picking up in the top of the sixth from a Comeaux Sac-RBI and a Furr RBI single.

“Very proud of our guys and the way we responded to our first road game and midweek game of the year,” Tech head coach Lane Burroughs said. “Caden Copeland was outstanding in his start and the bullpen was pretty electric as well and continued to execute at a high level.”

Tech will travel to Sugarland, Texas, to compete in the Battle of the BallPark through the weekend, with the first pitch at 6 p.m. tonight against Army.
