Fall slate set for GSU soccer

Friday, August 6, 2021

GRAMBLING — Grambling State University head women’s soccer coach Craig Roberts announced on Thursday the 2021 fall schedule, which features 12 home contests at the GSU Soccer Complex.

“The non-conference schedule will provide us with a multitude of challenges,” Roberts said. “Each opponent has its strengths and weaknesses, but that will help us prepare well for conference play. As our progress continues, we must find new challenges. From each challenge, whether it be a win or a loss, the most important thing is to reflect. We look forward to a great season.”

The Lady Tigers are coming off another successful campaign during the 2021 spring season as GSU went 8-2-2 overall in Roberts’ first season. GSU finished runner-up in the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Women’s Soccer Tournament, tying Alabama State, 2-2, but losing 3-1 in penalty kicks.

Grambling State opens the season at 5 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 13 against Louisiana College, before visiting Lamar in its first road contest on Aug. 19. The Lady Tigers play host to Southern Miss on Aug. 22 and travel to Sam Houston State on Aug. 27.

GSU wraps up the first month on Aug. 29 with a home contest against Louisiana-Monroe. The Lady Tigers open September with four straight home games against Nicholls (Sept. 5), Arkansas-Little Rock (Sept. 10), Troy (Sept. 10) and Central Arkansas (Sept. 17).

A trip to Abilene Christian awaits the Lady Tigers on Sept. 19, which concludes the second month of the season.

Grambling State begins SWAC play on Oct. 1 and Oct. 3, respectively, at home against Jackson State and Southern. The Lady Tigers visit Texas Southern (Oct. 8) and Prairie View A&M (Oct. 10), before coming back home to play host to Alabama State (Oct. 15) and Alabama A&M (Oct. 17).

GSU wraps up SWAC play with back-to-back road contests against Mississippi Valley State (Oct. 22) and Alcorn State (Oct. 24), before playing host to Arkansas-Pine Bluff (Oct. 29) in the regular season finale.
