Louisiana Tech ace Jonathan Fincher, Conference USA’s leader in ERA, was named the Pitcher of the Week in C-USA action for the second time this season after his shutout of Rice last Friday night.
DALLAS — Louisiana Tech starting pitcher Jonathan Fincher was named Conference USA’s Pitcher of the Week for the second time this season, as announced by the league office on Monday afternoon.?
The left-hander continued his dominance in 2021, moving to 6-0 with his second complete-game shutout of the season at Rice on Friday night.
The Friday night ace allowed just four hits and one walk in nine innings of work, helping LA Tech nail down its seventh shutout of the season, the top mark in the country.?
Fincher has thrown back-to-back complete games for the Bulldogs as No. 13 LA Tech is now 7-1 with the Shreveport native on the mound. The left-hander’s impressive command has been on full display in 2021, allowing just three walks over his past four starts (32.1 innings pitched).
Fincher holds a 1.16 ERA and has limited opposing hitters to a .195 batting average in three conference starts.
Fincher’s five strikeouts against the Owls gives him 47 punchouts on the season. After Friday’s start, he lowered his ERA to 1.35 and WHIP to 0.79. Fincher ranks near the top nationally in WHIP (16th), ERA (19th), pitching victories (T-third) and complete games (T-third).?Lou isiana Tech has had four different student-athletes earn C-USA weekly honors in 2021.
