Cedar Creek was well represented on the Louisiana Sports Writers Class 1A All-State Softball and Baseball teams, released early Tuesday.

Lady Cougars Mallory Smith (JR) and Bailey Adams (SR) made First Team all-state as the top players for Creek softball this spring. Smith led Creek in batting average (.485), on-base percentage (.523), and home runs (8) as a powerful leadoff hitter while Adams, a senior outfielder, closed out her high school career with a season to remember of a .464 batting average, 28 RBIs, 15 doubles, 3 HRs, and 18 stolen bases.

Anna Claire Fitzgerald earned all state honorable mention.

“They were both so consistent at the plate all year,” Lady Cougars head coach Julie Riser said. “They see the ball really well and can hit a lot of different pitches well. I’m so proud of the seasons they had.”

Cullen Matherne of Opelousas Catholic was named 1A Coach of the Year after leading the Vikings to their first ever softball state championship in his first season.

Zoey Fitts of Montgomery was named Class 1A MVP after hitting .550 with 11 HRs and 58 RBIs.

Kade Luker and Max Brister, the top pitchers for Creek baseball, made honorable mention all-state after showing out on the mound this year.

Luker, a freshman, put up a 2.50 ERA in 50 1/3 innings pitched with 85 strikeouts and two no-hitters. Brister, a senior, also finished with a 2.50 ERA in 58 2/3 innings with 40 strikeouts.

"Max and Kade being named to the all-state honorable mention team is a great recognition,” Creek baseball coach Chad Yates said. “It's a testament to their hard work and dedication that they put in each and every day. It's definitely a step in the right direction for Cedar Creek Baseball and the program we are getting back on track. One of the main things we emphasized this past season was to go out and give your very best effort each day and things would take care of themselves. Max and Kade epitomized that, and we couldn't be happier for them both."

Opelousas Catholic swept top honors with Justin Boyd winning Class 1A Baseball Coach of the Year after leading the program to its first state title as Opelousas Catholic (won 1970 title as AIC), while Mark Collins, a UL-Lafayette signee, won MVP with a .491 batting average, 42 RBIs, and 10 doubles.
