Green returns as Tech sofball assistant coach
There’s no place like home.
After three seasons with the Louisiana Tech softball program, former player Madie Green is back with the program as an assistant coach.
Green, who played outfield for the Bulldogs from 2020-22, announced her return to Ruston for the 2024 season on social media Wednesday afternoon.
The Keller, Texas, native played in 116 games for Tech with a .306 career batting average, 87 hits, 21 home runs, 68 RBIs and a .602 slugging percentage while in Ruston. Her 21 home runs ranks ninth in program history.
Green helped the Bulldogs win the Conference USA regular season title in 2022 and finish the season 39-20 overall before closing her playing career.
“I love this university,” Green said. “It’s my alma mater, so I take a lot of pride in it. I was only blessed to play for this coaching staff for one year but I learned so much from Josh Taylor and grew a lot as a player and a person. Josh knew I had aspirations of being a coach so when I got the call from him to come back, I felt like it was too good of an opportunity to pass up.”
After playing in 52 of the team’s 59 games in 2022, Green was named a Second Team All-Conference USA selection after hitting .316 with 9 doubles and 13 home runs – third most in a single season in program history.
Before returning to Ruston, Green finished serving as head coach of the Texas Fusion College Prep 14U Softball team, an organization she once played for as a youth.
Texas Fusion College Prep has helped 40 athletes earn college offers over the last three years, and Green hopes to bring that level of detail and talent development to the Bulldogs. And knowing some of the current roster members will give her a leg up as well.
“Since I played for Josh and also played with some of the girls left on the roster, I can relate to both sides of the aisle,” Green said. “I want to help build the strength of the culture and the vision Josh has continuously been building since day one. I’m hoping I can bring some more of that energy, motivation and the meaning of buying into the coaches’ teachings like we had the year we became regular season conference champions.”
Green said beyond the softball, Ruston as a community touched her heart and left a mark, making the move back another easy decision.
“I absolutely love Ruston and the people,” Green said. “Everything within this town and university make it feel as close to home as it can be. The love and support from the community of Ruston and the great friendships I made with my teammates and coaches made it very special in my time playing at Tech. This university gave me the best opportunity to play softball at the level I wanted to play and it gave me the best fifth year I could have asked for.”
Tech softball will begin its fall competition schedule against ULM at home on Oct. 10.
