GRAMBLING — Grambling State’s Kyle Walker has been invited to the 2024 USA Baseball Collegiate National Team Camp.
His invitation to the collegiate national team camp punctuates a successful season and busy summer for the redshirt-sophomore from New Orleans.
Walker, who helped lead the Tigers to their first SWAC title and NCAA Tournament appearance in 14 years, batted .381 with 11 home runs, 10 doubles, one triple and 41 RBIs to go along with 14 steals.
He ranked top five in the SWAC in multiple offensive categories, including 3rd in average, 4th in on-base percentage (.510), 2nd in hits (77), and 4th in HRs (11). Walker was also named to the Black College Nines Large School Elite Team first team.
Walker’s stellar season also earned him invites to the 2024 MLB Draft Combine and the 2024 HBCU Swingman Classic – the latter taking place July 12 at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas, during MLB All-Star Week.
Since 2018, only two HBCU players have made the U.S. Collegiate National Team.
The USA Baseball Collegiate National Team Training Camp will feature 56 of the premier non-draft-eligible college players for a two-game Stars vs. Stripes intrasquad series in North Carolina on June 26 and 27.
USA Baseball will name the final Collegiate National Team for the International Friendship Series roster and a Summer League Tour roster, following Training Camp on Sunday.
Both Training Camp games will be held at the USA Baseball National Training Complex in Cary, N.C., on Wednesday and Thursday. First pitch for both games will be at 5:35 p.m.
The International Friendship Series roster will then take on Chinese Taipei in a five-game series, while the Summer League Tour roster will take on select teams from the Appalachian League and the Coastal Plain League in a fourgame slate.
The schedule will culminate with a Fourth of July matchup between the two U.S. Collegiate National Team rosters in Fayetteville, N.C. First pitch is scheduled for 5:35 p.m.
