GRAMBLING — The Grambling State men’s basketball couldn’t cool a hot shooting Arkansas-Pine Bluff team, falling 86-70 at the Fredrick C. Hobdy Assembly Center on Monday night.
Tra’Michael Moton had the hot hand for the Tigers, scoring 26 points with 5 rebounds, 4 assists and a steal. GSU (8-12 overall, 5-2 SWAC) struggled to limit UAPB (9-11, 4-3 SWAC) from three-point range.
From tipoff, the Golden Lions were determined to live behind the arch, unleashing a barrage of three-pointers to build a commanding lead in the first half. In the opening period, UAPB attempted 22 three-pointers, knocking down nine (40%).
For the game, the Golden Lions went 14-of-32 from deep. Grambling State, on the other hand, wasn’t as dialed in from deep, going 8-of-28 (28.6%) Arkansas-Pine Bluff had two players cross the 20-point threshold, with Kylen Milton pouring in 26 points and Joe French adding 23 points.
French went 8-of-18 from the floor but was 7-of-14 from three-point range. The beginning of the game had the makings of a back-andforth SWAC battle. With GSU trailing 14-11 with 13:36 remaining in the first half, UAPB used a 14-2 run over the next six minutes to grow its lead to 28-13.
Grambling State never regained its balance, trailing for double digits the rest of the contest.
