The Grambling State softball team got back in the win column with a 6-1 victory over Arlington Baptist on Tuesday night at the Ruston Sports Complex.

Erin Gibs earned her second save of the year, allowing no runs on two hits. She struck out one batter.

Dacia Richard set the tone in the circle, giving up just one run on three hits with two Ks in her start.

Arlington Baptist got on the board in the top of the first on an RBI single, but Grambling State found some daylight in the bottom of the fourth when Khali Malone ripped a two-out RBI double into left field to give GSU a 2-1 lead.

Deija Russell brought Malone around to score on a single to right field, extending the Tigers’ lead to 3-1.

Kamryn Broussard’s sacrifice fly in the fifth inning made it 4-1 GSU.

In the sixth inning, a throwing error by ABU allowed Grambling State’s fifth run to cross the plate. Kendyll Turpeau’s RBI single wrapped up the scoring, giving the Tigers a 6-1 cushion.

Grambling State returns to the GSU Softball Complex for a four-game weekend series versus Alcorn State. The series will begin Friday with a doubleheader set for a 1 p.m. start.
