Geordan Guidry wants to ride the wave — the Tulane Green Wave, that is.
The Ruston High senior defensive end announced his intention to commit to Tulane University to continue his football career Saturday on social media, cementing his decision after an official visit weekend on campus.
Guidry, who led Ruston in sacks (7.5) and tackles for loss (10) last season, said he was impressed with the character of the coaching staff at Tulane and felt it would be the right home for him to take his game to the next level.
“Tulane is building an amazing program,” Guidry told the Leader after his commitment. “I believe Coach Fritz is an amazing coach and an amazing man and that is the man I want to be my coach. Coach Chatman, the D- line coach, is the coach I need, and I know he will get me to the top.”
Tulane achieved historic success under seventh- year head coach Willie Fritz last season, finishing the year 12-2, capped off with a 46-45 win over No. 10 USC in the Cotton Bowl.
It was the program’s first major bowl game since the 1940 Sugar Bowl.
The Green Wave also defeated UCF to win its first AAC championship and the school’s first conference championship since 1998.
After the Cotton Bowl victory, Tulane ranked ninth in the final AP Poll, the highest ranking of the Green Wave since 1998.
Guidry watched closely as the program kept ascending last season and felt through his visits and conversations with coaches that the program has the right pieces to keep the momentum going.
Guidry said Tulane coaches loved his high motor on the field and his willingness to play physical. He finished with 74 tackles and 3 pass breakups and earned first team All-District to go with his pass-rushing numbers, and was Class 5A honorable mention All-State.
His commitment to Tulane finally caught the attention of national recruiting services, including 247Sports. On March 8, Guidry was unrated as a prospect and had no national or in- state ranking, per 247Sports Composite.
But after his verbal stamp with the Green Wave, Guidry now sits as a 3- star prospect and is listed as the No. 28 defensive lineman in the Class of 2024 in Louisiana.
Now, he intends to use this as motivation for the fall.
“This allows me to focus on the upcoming season, and it motivates me to have my best season yet and win a state championship before I go off to college,” Guidry said.
Guidry is now the third Ruston defensive player to announce his commitment to a Division I program, with linebacker Jadon Mayfield announcing his commitment to Louisiana Tech on May 12 and fellow defensive end Ahmad Breaux committing to LSU in March.
