Logan Malone’s dream of playing college football has come true, and he won’t have to go far to do it.
Malone, a senior wide receiver for the Ruston Bearcats, announced his commitment to Centenary College in Shreveport late Thursday after a career season for the Bearcats on their way to a state championship.
“It means the world to me,” Malone told the Leader after his announcement. “ It’s been a dream since I was a little kid to play college ball. The coaches, Coach (Keondre) Wudtee and Coach ( John) Brantley have been on my trail for a while trying to reel me in, and meeting Coach (Byron) Dawson in person, his energy and passion for the game is like mine so that just added the icing on the cake.”
Dawson is the head coach for the Gents, while Wudtee is the offensive coordinator. Brantley, the father of RHS quarterback Josh Brantley, is the special teams coordinator.
Malone led Ruston in receiving yards (377) – a career high – on 18 catches in 2023 to go with a pair of touchdowns.
He saved his best for last with five catches for 112 yards in the state championship game, proving to be a dependable deep threat as well as a mid-yardage weapon.
Malone, a first-team All-District 2-5A selection, averaged 17 yards per catch over the last two seasons and will look to add that explosive ability to a Centenary program that returned to the field for the first time since the 1940’s this fall.
With his commitment, Malone is the first Ruston Bearcat to be on the Centenary roster since the program’s revival in 2023.
