After a turnaround season for the Ruston softball program, six Lady Bearcats earned postseason honors on the All- District team from District 2- 5A coaches.
Seniors Cala Wilson and Allie Richardson, along with junior Morgan Foster, earned firstteam honors.
Seniors Jojo Fernandes, Murphy DeMoss, and Shelby Freeman all earned secondteam honors, while junior Abby Holton made honorable mention.
Wilson hit .447 in district with 13 RBIs and 2 home runs, while Richardson batted .467 in district with 6 RBIs. Foster led the way with a .500 average in league play with 4 RBIs and 2 homers.
In their final respective seasons for Ruston, Fernandes hit .400 in league play, while Freeman hit .333 and DeMoss batted .278.
It’s a stark improve-ment for the Lady Bearcats, who had three All- District selections in 2023, and just Wilson on the first team.
“It’s huge for us,” RHS softball coach Lauren Garvie said. “ Last year, I had to host the district meeting and it was my first year in Louisiana and I was still getting used to things and it was tough to put together a lot of names with stats and a record to defend. This year, it wasn’t, ‘Hey, if it’s OK, could I nominate this player?’ This year it was, ‘Ruston, who do you have on first team?’ There was no conversation when Morgan Foster is hitting .500 in district or Allie Richardson is hitting mid .400 in district and Cala did what she did.”
Ruston softball finished 17-13 overall in 2024 with its most district wins ( 5) since 2018, improving the program’s win total by 13 games from the previous season.
