Ruston vaults to No. 1 in final LSWA HSFB poll

After the program’s first undefeated regular season since 1990, the Ruston Bearcats jumped into a tie for 1st place in Class 5A with fellow undefeated squad Destrehan (10-0), per the latest LSWA Prep Poll from the Louisiana Sports Writers Association.

Ruston (10-0) closed its regular season with a 35-28 win over West Monroe, with Jordan Hayes running for a career-best 249 yards and 3 touchdowns in the road victory. The unscathed record in the regular season was rewarded for Ruston grabbing the No. 1 overall seed in the Division I non select playoffs.

After losing a rare contest, Edna Karr fell from No. 1 to No. 5 in Class 5A, while John Curtis moved up to No. 3 from No. 5.

The Bearcats will have a bye week to prepare for their second-round matchup against the winner of No. 16 Westgate and No. 17 Terrebonne.
