Louisiana Tech outfielder Katelin Cooper was honored by Conference USA as one of 11 recipients for the prestigious Jim Castañeda Postgraduate Scholarship, the league announced on Thursday.

Every season, C-USA grants a $4,000 scholarship to distinguished graduates selected by the league’s Faculty Athletics Representatives and approved by the Conference USA Board of Directors.

Cooper earned undergraduate degrees in biology and psychology. She has posted a 3.87 GPA while pursuing her master’s degree in counseling and guidance and has plans to start her doctorate in counseling psychology this fall.

Cooper was a College Sports Communicators All-District academic selection in 2023 and an NFCA Scholar-Athlete in 2022. The Choudrant native has started all 112 games of her Tech career, posting a .275 batting average with 86 hits, including 16 doubles, 8 triples, 11 home runs, 68 RBIs, and 60 walks.

She has accounted for 62 runs scored and 23 stolen bases. Cooper tallied 42 RBIs in 2023, the sixth-most all-time by a Lady Techster in a single season.

One recipient from each of the conference’s 11 schools is honored with the scholarship each year. This marks the 15th year the award has been named after Dr. Jim Castañeda, who served Rice for 46 years as an educator, coach, and Faculty Athletics Representative before he passed in 2008.
