Louisiana Tech’s Zoe Hicks gets ready to take a cut at the plate against No. 1 Oklahoma earlier this season.

LAFAYETTE — Despite turning a season-high four double plays, Louisiana Tech fell 7-0 to No. 14 ranked UL-Lafayette Tuesday afternoon at Lamson Park.

The Ragin’ Cajuns (35-7) plated two runs in the first and then added five runs — all unearned and coming with two outs — in the second to build the early 7-0 advantage.

Tech pitcher Bre Hernadez came on in relief and worked the final 4 1/3 innings in the circle, holding UL-Lafayette to two hits and no runs. Audrey Pickett (4-10) got the start, allowing seven runs — only two earned — on six hits and two walks before giving way to Hernandez in the bottom of the second inning.

The Lady Techsters managed just two base runners in the game against the combination of Kandra Lamb, Summer Ellyson and Vanessa Foreman. The trio combined for eight strikeouts while allowing only one hit and issuing zero walks.

Sophomore Kylie Neel — who transferred from UL-Lafayette in the offseason — recorded a single for the only hit of the game for Tech.

Defensively, Neel started the first double play of the game, making a diving catch in right field in the bottom of the first before making the relay throw to Caroline Easom who gunned down a Ragin’ Cajuns runner at home to end the frame.

Tech returns to action Saturday when the Lady Techsters host Texas-El Paso at 1 p.m. Single game tickets are available through the Tech Ticket Office at 318-257-3631 or at the gates prior to the contest.
