The Grambling State Tigers have been gearing up for the 2021 season with practices at various times of the day. This week they have been plagued by weather issues.
GRAMBLING — Grambling State University’s football team again had to face its biggest foe of the 2021 preseason Wednesday night as Mother Nature lashed out at the Tigers once again.
And this time, the age-old phrase was proven wrong as lightning did strike twice.? For a second consecutive night, a strong thunderstorm chased the Tigers off the turf of Eddie G. Robinson Stadium earlier than scheduled.
While GSU completed a good portion of Tuesday’s scheduled practice, the Tigers weren’t very far into Wednesday’s workout before head coach Broderick Fobbs had to start barking for them to move inside in a hurry.?
“It’s part of it,” Fobbs said as he watched his players jog up the ramp from the bottom of the stadium to the GSU locker room. “We normally wait about 15 minutes or so and if it doesn’t pass we call it a day.”
Wednesday’s storm was still just ramping up 15 minutes later, ending the Tigers’ hopes of being able to return to the field and complete the practice.
“It is what it is,” Fobbs said.
Fobbs said that while he never likes losing practice time, he wasn’t overly concerned. He’s also had to watch his G-Men face Mother Nature’s blistering heat multiple times in earlier workouts.
“We’ll be all right,” Fobbs said. “We were able to get out and do a little in it before it hit, so we’ll be all right.”?Watching his Tigers practice in full pads, Fobbs got to see his offense produce some big plays early on in Wednesday’s practice and had moved to the kickoff coverage portion of the workout when he had to send them off the field.
“We’re still making progress, and that’s all that really matters at this point,” Fobbs said.
