Appearances can be very deceptive. As Jesus was travelling down the dusty roads of ancient Palestine it was the appearance of a tree that caught Jesus’ attention. It was not the season for figs, but the beautiful leaves on the tree indicated that this was a special tree. Usually, on this type of tree the fruit came before the leaves. When Jesus sees the tree’s leaves He just knew that there was fruit on the tree to fill His empty stomach. But when Jesus gets closer He discovers that there was no fruit on the tree.
