Robert James ‘Bert’ Richard, Sr.

Robert James “Bert” Richard, Sr., was born on May 6, 1931, in Church Point, and was the youngest of 10 children. He joined the Lord on August 8, 2022. Bert joined the Air Force and served in the Vietnam and Korean wars. Bert was awarded the Bronze Star for his service during the Vietnam War. He retired from the Air Force as a master sergeant in 1974. After retirement he became a bus driver for the Lincoln Parish School District. He also owned and operated Kiddie Kastle Day Care.

Voter registration drives slated to begin this week

Lincoln Parish residents who want to vote in this fall’s election and are not yet registered have a number of upcoming opportunities to sign up starting this week. The parish registrar of voters’ office kicks off a series of voter drives around the parish on Wednesday with the first one set for 9:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. that day at the Rolling Hills Thrift Store, located at 3487 Hwy. 33, just north of Ruston. Registrants should bring a photo ID and proof of address. Residents who are already registered but need to update their registration or want to sign up for the age 65-and-old mail ballot program can also do so at any of the drive locations, Registrar of Voters Sharon Parnell said. Here’s a list of the drive locations: Wednesday – 8: 30 a. m.- 11: 30 a. m., Rolling Hills Thrift Store, located at 3487 Hwy. 33 Thursday – 3:30 p.m.

Extended Trenton Street lane closure begins

The closure of the left lane of N. Trenton Street from W. Florida Avenue to W. Alabama Avenue began Monday morning in downtown Ruston. This lane closure is required to reconstruct the parking, concrete curb and gutter, and sidewalk. This work is associated with the city of Ruston’s Downtown Revitalization project that is ongoing.
