Not long ago, my youngest niece unexpectedly asked my parents for pictures of daddy’s station. This caused my mom to begin digging through all her family photo albums to see what pictures she might have of Cox’s Shell. She was disappointed and somewhat surprised to discover there were none. Sure, there’s a photo or two of daddy from those days, usually involved in some kind of mischief. However, she found no real pictures of the structure. When you think about it, we shouldn’t be that surprised. After all, during the time daddy was working at service stations we sure didn’t have the luxury of unlimited photo ops like folks do today. Without cell phones, it was much more involved to engage in “picture-taking” with a camera not to mention the expense that went with it. The result — not many pictures.
