Louisiana appears headed to a veto override session, marking another tradition-busting moment of Gov. John Bel Edwards’ tenure as lawmakers break from historic norms and flex their constitutional independence in a state where a governor’s power once seemed almost absolute.

By the end of next week, we’ll know if the Louisiana Legislature is going to hold its first veto session in modern times, or whether lawmakers’ recent spate of chest puffing is just bravado.

Few conversations seem to elicit such strong emotions as those concerning hamburgers. I found that out when I recently started a Facebook thread centered on how folks build theirs. Maybe that’s as it should be. After all, America has come to be associated with the hamburger as much as – or more than – apple pie.
