Richard ‘Dick’ Gibbs
Richard “Dick” Gibbs, age 83, of Ruston, left this life on August 21, 2022, to join his Lord and
Father James will celebrate a mass in his honor at St. Francis Catholic Church in Monroe. Father James was a dear friend of Dick.
Dick was born on May 12, 1939, to Eldon William Gibbs and Doris Johnston Gibbs in Buffalo, New York. Dick retired as a Physics Professor from Louisiana Tech University after 33
years of teaching.
He also taught at Delta Community College in Monroe and Cedar Creek School in Ruston. He really enjoyed teaching.
He also enjoyed reading, especially about physics. Any given afternoon would find Dick entertaining himself, solving physics problems. He was a member of the American Physics Society.
Dick is survived by his wife of 42 years, Providence Rouse Gibbs of Ruston; son, Todd
Gibbs of Huntsville, Alabama; two daughters, Lizabeth Gibbs Hattaway and husband Paul, of Many, and Kerry Gibbs Ciccone of Baton Rouge; two step-sons, Kevin Plunkett and wife Cindy, of Ruston, and Tony Plunkett and wife Erin, of Bryant; nine grandchildren, James Halk and wife Cristi, Robert Halk, Heath Hattaway, Chase Hattaway, Richard Daniel Nutt and wife Christi, Chelsie Ciccone, Michael Ciccone, Ethan Plunkett, and Emory Plunkett; five great- grandchildren, Leo Nutt, Logan Nutt, Charlie Nutt, Monroe Ciccone, and Julia Halk; very special friends, the Sanchez family of West Monroe and the Collier family of Ruston; and a host of family and friends.
Dick was preceded in death by his step-son, Scott Plunkett.
