The Ruston 6U SweeTees softball team will look to bring back some hardware at the 2023 SweeTee World Series in Alexandria.

The team will start the World Series off against Wayne County, Tennessee, at 9 a.m. Saturday before entering elimination play on Sunday.

If the team defeats Tennessee in round one, they would advance to Sunday’s elimination round at 9 a.m. If Ruston loses against Tennessee, the squad would open elimination bracket at 10:30 a.m Sunday and would need to win every game going forward to advance.

The team will take part in a banquet tonight, along with a DJ, for the kids to let loose before games get underway Saturday morning.

It proved to be a dramatic route to make it to the World Series for the group, with the squad winning four straight games in the state tournament, including an extra- inning affair with Minden, to make it to Alexandria.

Ruston SweeTees head coach Travis Whitehead is proud of how much the girls have accomplished this season and hopes they can go out strong over the next four days.

“They’ve done very, very well,” Whitehead said. “ They really improved since we first started. What really put the icing on the cake was when they beat Minden a few weeks ago. Minden had beaten us three times already and so that was quite something. I’m excited for these girls to be able to play at an event like this.”

The Ruston 6U SweeTees assistant coaches include Whitney Buck, Maggie Voorhees, and Kane Rozelle.

The team includes Kamryn Salter, June Johnson, Caitlyn Cato, Mary Lyla Buck, Nena Voorhees, Callie Hoefler, Annastyn Whitehead, Madelyn Letendre, Grayson Lantrip, Skylar Patterson, Ella Rose Kavalier and Charlie Cherry.
