Winter weather: Officials warn against driving Tuesday
Local authorities continue to urge residents to stay home and not to get on the roads today. There’s been no change in icy conditions since Monday, and some places may be worse as a result of the overnight hard freeze, they say.
Ruston Police Chief Steve Rogers warned of black ice, that coating of ice on the roadway that often appears clear.
“Those spots out there that look like they’re wet, that’s ice,” he said.
Law enforcement agencies say most of the incidents they’ve worked so far have been vehicles sliding off the roadway, spinning on the ice, or getting stuck.
“Don’t think just because you can get going, everything’s perfect,” Rogers said.
Temperatures this morning remain in the teens with the wind chill in the low single digits. The temperature isn’t expected to climb above freezing until midday Wednesday, and it will only stay that way for several hours before dropping back in the 20s, according to the National Weather Service.
