Two people escaped injury when this fire broke out at a residence on Barksdale Street on Tuesday morning. Units from the Ruston Fire Department arrived on the scene shortly after 9 a.m. to find flames coming from the roof gables of the home. The two occupants, who were asleep at the time of the blaze, were awakened by the smell of smoke, RFD Public Education Officer Eric Brazzel said. Firefighters extinguished the fire within 10 minutes of arriving on the scene. The home sustained major fire and smoke damage, Brazzel said. The blaze is still under investigation.
