Shelley King rocks the Dixie Theatre

Award-winning Texas songwriter and powerhouse singer Shelley King and her band performed at The Dixie Center for the Arts Labor Day weekend. The first woman to be appointed Official State Musician of Texas by the state legislature, King offered a set filled with blues, roots-rock and gospel-tinged Americana music. The Dixie’s next show will be Oct. 1 and will feature Dauzat St. Marie in a special appearance to help support Wiggin’ Out.

China Grove Church Back to School giveaway

China Grove Church in Ruston held a Back to School Supply Giveaway on Aug. 20 at the Fellowship Hall. Every child in attendance received school supplies and was provided with lunch. Also, on the same day the church held a drawing for a school supply basket giveaway, which included a Raising Cane’s gift certificate. The winner was Madison Livingston of Ruston (middle) being presented the basket by Pastor Wilson and wife Victoria Wilson.
