Pedestrian hit and killed on I-20 identified
Police have identified the pedestrian struck and killed Monday night alongside I-20 as 37-year-old Rodney Whiteside of Bossier City.
Whiteside was apparently walking along the westbound side of the interstate when he stepped in front of a vehicle, Ruston Police Chief Steve Rogers said Friday.
No charges have been brought against the driver. The incident remains under investigation.
Whiteside is the third pedestrian to be killed in Ruston since October.
Luis Alberto Esparza Rios, 41, of New Orleans, was struck by several vehicles as he tried to cross Cooktown Road about 9:20 p.m. Oct. 16.
Three days later, Jackson Mitcham, 21, of Sterlington died of injuries sustained when he was struck by a vehicle on the south I-20 service road near a popular bar. A second man was also hit and sustained moderate injuries. The two were walking in the road.
Abby Sterling, 20, of Shreveport, has been charged with vehicular homicide in that incident.
