The location for the Kids in the Kitchen Workshop this year was the Louisiana Tech University Human Ecology kitchen labs, with 30 students spread out in six kitchens to learn more about cooking techniques, nutrition, kitchen safety, reading recipes, knife skills and more. Ten dedicated, and patient, volunteers guided youth through each step of food demonstrations, preparation, and cooking techniques. Two Ruston Fire Department educators, Eric Brazzel and Dexter Butler, taught the students about kitchen safety, managing fires on the stove, cuts, burns and much more. The firefighters demonstrated how to use a fire extinguisher, then each student demonstrated what they learned by putting out a fire.
