It seems like forever ago the Jonesboro-Hodge Tigers had a goose egg in the win column. Now, Terrance Blankenship, head coach of Jonesboro-Hodge, sees the Tigers picking up momentum right before the real challenges begin. J- Hodge defeated Pineville 20- 10 in a Thursday night game in Rapides Parish, with the Rebels having no answers for the run game of the Tigers. “Drayton had a big day for us,” Blankenship said. “ I brought Chance Leonard in too, and he ran well. We’ve got to continue to run the ball.” Beating a 5A opponent showed notable progress for Blankenship, but it’s going to be tested next week as district competition gets going. “I told them that was the regular season, now we’re going to district [ play],” Blankenship said Friday. “They got a little momentum, we just got to build on it and put together all three phases.”

GRAMBLING — The Grambling State University women’s soccer team nearly remained unbeaten in Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) play, but a late goal by Texas Southern handed GSU its first conference loss, 1-0, at the GSU Soccer Complex on Friday afternoon. In the first half, Grambling State (4-7-1 Overall, 1- 1- 1 SWAC) put pressure on Texas Southern’s defense, outshooting Texas Southern (2-7-2, 2-0-1) 9-2 in the first period, placing five shots on goal. In the second half, it looked as if GSU would not its second draw on conference play, but a goal by TSU’s Hayden McMillan in the 85th minute, gave Texas Southern a 1-0 lead that it would relinquish.
