Another suspect in Grambling traffic stop surrenders
Another of the suspects who fled from Grambling city police during a traffic stop Thursday evening has turned himself in.
Kenshawn Twan Carter, 19, of Homer, surrendered to authorities just after 5 p. m. Friday, Grambling Police Chief Tommy Clark said.
Carter is charged with no seatbelt, illegal possession of a stolen firearm, and handling of machine gun unlawful. The machine gun charge stemmed from the suspects’ having a conversion device that changes a semiautomatic weapon into a fully automatic one within seconds.
Carter was one of three males who ran while officers were in the midst of arresting four other men. All seven were in a black Mitsubishi police stopped because the driver wasn’t wearing a seatbelt.
Now six of the seven, including three juveniles, have been arrested, all on firearm charges. Most of the suspects are from Homer, in Claiborne Parish.
A search of the vehicle turned up a black Glock 23 handgun that had been stolen out of Minden hidden behind the rear passenger seat and a black Stoeger handgun behind the driver’s seat, police said. A handgun was also in open view on the rear floorboard.
According to Carter’s arrest affidavit, he confessed to police that he was with the group and that he fled.
Carter’s arrest brings to eight firearm- related arrests GPD made over a 72hour period in unrelated incidents. None of the suspects were from Lincoln Parish.
