Cedar Creek faced off with Delhi in a matchup where both teams were trying to get their first win of the season. Cedar Creek struggled in their week 1 matchup at Delhi Charter in a 40-0 loss, and hope to reverse their football fortune in their first home game of the season.

Delhi came out strong and was able to score on their first possession after a 35-yard kickoff return that put them in good field position. Two plays later Delhi was able to score a touchdown and capitalize on two-point conversion giving them an 8-0 advantage.

With Delhi moving the ball down the field and looking to be in scoring position again Micheal Terry came up with a big interception to give Cedar Creek a chance to make some offensive plays and put some points on the board. Cedar Creek was able to move the ball down the field but came up short and ended the quarter down 8-0.

The second quarter was frustrating as the offense slowed down their progress, but after a fumble recovery in the endzone the Cougars scored their first touchdown of the season and completed the twopoint conversion. After a full quarter of fumbles and interceptions neither team was able to add any points to the score and with 31 seconds left in the half the Cougars decided to take a knee and prepare for the second half.

The second half started with a safety in favor of Delhi and a 10- 8 Delhi lead, but that was not the end of a rough start to the second half. On the following kickoff Delhi’s Jay Wright ran a 58-yard kickoff return pushing the score to a 16-8 Delhi advantage with 9:32 left in the 3rd.

At the start of the fourth quarter Noah Smith caused a fumble that was recovered by Mason Wooden for a touchdown. The Cougars were unable to convert the two-point attempt which left them behind by just two points with plenty of time left in the game.

With 2: 31 left in the game Braden Robinson stripped the ball at the 40 yard line giving the Cougars another chance to put some points on the board and get a win at home, but a personal foul with 1:37 pushed the Cougars all the way back to their 20 yard line and a sack on the 5 yard line left the Cougars with fourth and long which would ultimately end the game.

Big plays from Hayden Durret and Logan Amidon highlighted the tough Cedar Creek defense and give the team bright spots to celebrate.

Despite the loss, William Parkerson happy with his team’s effort. “I am proud of how the kids played. They played their guts out on the line, they played hard from the first snap until the end of the game. Delhi just made one more play than we did, and we just came up short.”

Cedar Creek will host Loyola College Prep at home next Friday night in hopes of getting their first win of the season.
