Dogs take seventh at Border Olympics

LAREDO, Texas – Highlighted by two top-15 finishes, the Louisiana Tech Golf team finished seventh out of the 17-team field at the Laredo Country Club as part of the Border Olympics.
Tech went into the third and final round in fifth place at +10, but sled back a couple of spots after shooting a 302 (+14) to end the event at +24 (292-294-302=888).
For the third time in the last four events, James Swash anchored the Bulldogs, collecting his first top-10 finish of the 2022-23 season after shooting a 72 (E) in round three to end the tournament with a 216 (71-73-72). He tied for eighth individually, the first time a Bulldog has finished in the top 10 this season.
Collecting his third top-20 finish was Thomas Henson who shot +3 (75-70-74) for the event. He recorded the most birdies by a Bulldog in the final round with three, helping him tie for 14th individually.
It was a second straight solid performance for Hunter Battles who backed up a 28th-place finish at The Hayt with a 29th-place finish at the Border Olympics, carding a +7 (7374-76).
Lake Juban ended the three rounds at +15 (74-77-80) while Will Patrick finished at +17 (74-77-82).
Tech collected victories over Sam Houston (107), New Mexico State (95), Rice (121), Illinois State (82), Lamar (182), Bowling Green (185), Miami (Ohio) (137), Western Carolina (109), Houston Christian (222), and UT Rio Grande Valley (234).
Swash finished in the top 25 for the fourth straight tournament, anchoring the Bulldogs in three of them.
Tech returns to action March 5-7 when they travel to Alabama to participate in the Tiger Invitational hosted by the University of Auburn.
